Poole Ju Jitsu Club Shines at the 17th Kokoro Kai & Wakarishi Championships

Seven medals, six competitors, and one unforgettable weekend – Poole Ju Jitsu Club made their mark at the 17th International Kokoro Kai & Wakarishi Ju Jitsu Course and Championships, held in Southend-On-Sea. The Essex seaside town hosted the country’s largest Ju Jitsu gathering, where practitioners showcased their skills against the very best.

Eight members of Poole Ju Jitsu travelled to the championships, two instructors, six competitors  which is the highlight of the martial arts calendar, combining a traditional course and an exhilarating competition. The event began with senior instructors from the UK and Europe sharing their expertise, delivering a morning of intensive training to eager participants. The afternoon gave way to the fiercely contested championships, featuring categories like open-hand kata, weapon katas, ground fighting, random attacks, and continuous fighting.

The medal-winning streak began with duo partners Layla Diffy and Ruben Knight. Months of preparation paid off as their polished pairs demonstration earned a bronze medal in a competitive category. Ruben continued his success with a silver medal in continuous fighting, showcasing his versatility.

Adult member Carl Storrie made an impressive debut, securing a silver medal in the random attacks category – a remarkable achievement considering he only began Ju Jitsu last year. Meanwhile, junior member Layla Diffy returned to the spotlight in the ground fighting category, claiming a hard-fought gold medal.

Club instructor Jordan Miller expressed immense pride in his students’ accomplishments. “I’m tremendously proud of our members for their dedication and hard work,” he said. “Travelling such long distances to compete is never easy, but their achievements at this prestigious event are a testament to their commitment and the strength of our club.”

The team’s stellar performance not only highlights their talent but also reinforces Poole Ju Jitsu Club’s reputation on the national stage. With seven medals and countless memories, the weekend was a triumphant chapter in the club’s history.

A Memorable Weekend at Sinhon Jiu-Jitsu Club, Zaragoza

This past weekend, we had the pleasure of visiting Sinhon Jiu-Jitsu Club in Zaragoza, Spain. Hosted by the exceptional Sensei Javier 4th Dan, the experience was nothing short of incredible. From the moment we arrived, Sensei Javier went above and beyond to ensure our stay was comfortable, enjoyable, and productive. His hospitality and dedication made us feel truly welcome, setting the tone for a remarkable weekend of training and camaraderie.

Sensei Javier’s students were equally impressive—a true reflection of their instructor’s commitment to excellence. Their enthusiasm and skill shone throughout the weekend seminar, which was conducted by two distinguished guest instructors: Sensei Tony Joaquin (7th Dan) Gibraltar Bushido and Sensei Andy Walker (6th Dan) and Sensei Karen Nuttall (1st Dan).

Morning Training Sessions
The morning was divided into two groups, allowing both instructors to dedicate time to demonstrate new techniques and guiding the students through practice. It was inspiring to see the excitement and determination in every participant as they absorbed the lessons and refined their skills.

Afternoon Highlights
The afternoon session brought everyone together into a single group, led by Sensei Karen Nuttall (1st Dan). She captivated the room with her expertise, showcasing a variety of throwing techniques that left the students both awed and energised. Her passion for teaching was evident, and the students responded with great enthusiasm, further enriching the seminar’s vibrant atmosphere.

Cultural Connections
In true Spanish fashion, the day included a much-appreciated siesta lunch, offering a chance for both the British and Spanish teams to relax and connect over delicious food. It was a perfect opportunity to reflect on the training sessions and strengthen friendships.

In addition to the training, the British team took some time to explore the beautiful city of Zaragoza. From its stunning architecture to its vibrant culture, Zaragoza provided the perfect backdrop to an already amazing weekend. The chance to sightsee added another layer of richness to the experience, leaving us with fond memories of both the seminar and the city itself.

Final Thoughts
The weekend at Sinhon Jiu-Jitsu Club was an unforgettable experience, blending high-quality training with warm hospitality and cultural exchange. A heartfelt thank you to Sensei Javier for his extraordinary efforts and to all the students who made us feel part of their family. This year, the inaugural event will be held at the New Bushido Headquarters in Great Britain.

The purpose behind this project is to strengthen Bushido friendships and enhance our collective training experience. By bringing together senior chief instructors and registered masters from various countries, we aim to build a stronger, more interconnected Bushido community.

Poole Jujitsu heads to the East Coast

The East Coast Jujitsu Course and Championships in Skegness on November 4th saw a significant gathering of high-grade instructors from various regions across the UK, including Poole Jujitsu Club’s Sensei Andy Walker, 6th Dan, who was accompanied by Sensei Karen Nuttall, 1st Dan. They played pivotal roles right from the start as they opened the event with a captivating demonstration of throwing techniques. Following the demonstration, they took to the mat to teach the junior members imparting valuable skills.

Sensei Andy and Sensei Karen’s involvement didn’t stop there. They took on the roles of officiating at the afternoon competition. Their presence and active engagement highlighted their commitment to the Jujitsu community and their dedication to nurturing the next generation of martial artists.

Among the standout achievements at the event was the remarkable performance of junior member Reuben from Poole Jujitsu Club. Reuben’s skills and determination earned him two gold medals in Continuous Fighting and Ground Fighting. His accomplishments were a testament to the promising talent emerging within the world of Jujitsu.

The East Coast Jujitsu Course and Championships were a celebration of unity within the Jujitsu community, offering a platform for practitioners of all levels to demonstrate their passion and dedication to this martial art. It was a huge success and we look forward to returning next year.
